Natural, handmade, traditional percussion instrument made in Ghana - West Africa and then traded fairly between old friends...

These gourds come from the Swawa tree, they are harvested by hand and dried naturally in the baking hot African sun, they are then hollowed and filled with pebbles before being connected with a short length of string, which is held in place with small wooden plugs.

They can be used in many ways, as conventional 'egg' shaker or as a dynamic polyrhythmic percussion instrument which can be easily picked up but tricky to master...

'Cas Cas' are also widely known as asaltua (ah-sah-la-toe,) kashaka, televi, kasso-kassoni, kas kas shakers.

A great gift for any percussion enthusiast.

These shakers are a fully natural product and as such should not get wet or be left to extended periods of time in extreme temperatures.
They do have a limited life expectancy, I personally have had sets which have lasted a few years, as well as having sets which have lasted only a few months. It is all about how well you treat them and how hard you play!
